I teach Visual Art to students in kindergarten through eighth grade at Montessori Community School of Charleston. Ours is a Choice-Based Art Program encouraging student directed learning. Using the Studio Habits of Mind as a model, students take ownership of their work:behaving, thinking and performing as authentic artists. It's a joy to be in our art studio with them!
Classroom Reflection
My digital story addressing curiosity and wonder is my school year opener for all my classes. I envision using Movie Maker this year to document student work in progress as I documented the progress of my own paintings here. Additionally, I plan to invite selected groups to create class digital stories where the students explain where they get their ideas for art-making. One aspect of digital storytelling that I KNOW I will use is the actual storyboard. I plan to show my students my example and lead them through the process of creating a board, demonstrating how this visual for organizing ideas is a wonderful tool.
